#OnThisDay 25th May 2018, the referendum to repeal the 8th amendment of the Irish constitution was passed, removing the barrier to abortion provision in the country.

#OnThisDay 7th September 1983 a referendum was held to add a "right to life of the unborn" to the Irish Constitution, legally blocking all abortion.
After decades of pro-choice campaigning, the amendment was repealed in 2018.

The eighth amendment was repealed by referendum the following May, removing the block on abortion in Ireland.
